Cople Sports and Social Club - A Brief History
Prior to 1982 this was housed in an old pavilion which was located on the side of playing field. However this was reaching the end of its life and becoming uneconomic to repair, also the inadequate facilities prevented the football team achieving promotion in league.
On 1 March 1982 the Cople Playing Field Pavilion Fund Raising and Building Committee was formed and held it's first meeting. This was done with the approval of the Playing Field Committee and had the following Aims:
As a result the plans were subsequently approved by Cople Playing Field Committee.
19/5/82 Clarification of the status of Cople Playing Field Pavilion Fund Raising and Building Committee:
19/3/84 It was agreed to propose to the Cople Playing Field Committee that a separate management committee be formed with the following aims:
It was agreed that the Cople Sports and Social Club Committee could be formed after the Cople Playing Field AGM had taken place and a notice to this effect would be added to the AGM notices as soon as possible.
27/3/84 It was agreed at the Cople Playing Field AGM to elect a committee for the newly-formed Cople Sports and Social Club and that a peppercorn rent would be arranged by the Playing Field Committee (not taken up). In return, Cople Sports and Social Club has provided and maintained shower and changing facilities for home and visiting teams, provided and maintained parking facilities for home and visiting teams, paid all water and gas and electricity bills related to the changing facilities and paid water bills for the watering of the cricket pitch.
In accordance with the Aims of the Club, donations have been made to the various sports clubs and to Cople Playing Field (which became Cople Playing Field Charity and then Cople Village Trust, a registered charity that also incorporated the management of Cople Village Hall) as and when funds have allowed.
2001 The relationship between Cople Sports and Social Club and Cople Village Trust was formalised when the Trust granted the Club an Occupation Licence allowing it to use and maintain the premises.
